The uninitiated unequal treatment of certain groups of people undermines the foundation of social coexistence. We therefore strongly oppose all forms of discrimination and racism. The protection of women and girls against sexual violence must be further strengthened. State prevention programmes must be expanded and private counselling services better supported. Trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation must be prosecuted throughout Europe and punished under criminal law. The right to sexual self-determination must be guaranteed and protected.
Human hostility and hatred must be countered at all levels of society. Increasing racism, anti-Semitism and Islamophobia poison the social climate in many European countries. Morals are becoming more and more entrenched and verbal and physical assaults against people of other origins or religions are becoming ever more frequent. We call for a social culture of fairness, mutual respect and esteem as well as responsible and dignified interaction. We also call for a transparent and strict approach by the criminal investigation and prosecution authorities. Hate crimes must not be trivialized, the public must be adequately informed and sensitized. We demand an improvement in victim protection, for example by setting up local counselling centres.
